The Power of Your Thoughts - How I Gave Birth Without an Epidural
Jul 20, 2025Five years ago, my little princess came into the world.

Her birth story is an incredible example of how powerful our thoughts really are.
It was two weeks before my due date, and I started having contractions. Like so many women, I had been told horror stories about childbirth — that it would be the worst pain imaginable.
Honestly, I have zero pain tolerance. I don’t even get my eyebrows waxed!
So I didn’t have high hopes that I could do this without pain meds.

But something unexpected happened.
As the contractions came, I kept thinking:
“This isn’t real labor. It’s too early. This doesn’t hurt — it’s just pre-labor. I can handle this.”
So I kept working all day, pausing to breathe through the waves, telling myself it wasn’t that bad.
By the early morning of July 18, the pain started to pick up. I told Clay, “It’s probably nothing, but let’s just go to the hospital to be safe.”
When we got there... I was already 6 cm dilated.
And my next thought?
“If I’ve made it this far, I can go all the way.”
And I did. No epidural!

Imagine if I had focused on fear and told myself, “I can’t handle this” or “This is going to hurt” or “I’m not strong enough.”
I would have had a totally different experience.
What you think creates what you feel and impacts what you do!!
What about you?
What if today, you began to recognize the power of your own thoughts?
What if you learned how to shift them — even just a little — toward peace, resilience, and confidence?
This is why I am so excited about my next Brainy Adventures book! It introduces to kids how powerful our thoughts!
I am also preparing a brief video on a technique to help you and your children start to manage these thoughts!
