Anxious for no reason - the love your brain formula applied

Do you ever feel anxious for no reason—when I get like this I tell my husband my anxiety switch is on.

your body is nervous, your mind won’t slow down, and you can’t figure out why

This is a response to what is going on in your brain.  

Here’s how to use my Love Your Brain Formula when a general feeling of anxiety takes over:

Step 1: Love your brain.
Anxiety is a symptom of the brain. It could be a combination of systems but one of the main ones is the basal ganglia.

Tell yourself "oh my basal ganglia is very active today!"

Give yourself grace and space for this feeling. Don't fight it. It's not you, it's your brain! Then get curious to move it in a different direction.

Step 2: Optimize your brain.
Take 3 deep belly breaths—long exhale. This is a go to for calming the brain in the moment
Then get curious
Maybe you need food, water, or rest. Did you eat something you could have a sensitivity to?

Movement and Exercise is also another tool that can help short term and long term symptoms of anxiety

Step 3: Empower yourself.
if you cannot specify a specific thought that is triggering your anxiety, the best tool to wield here is mindfulness- The practice of being present. Run through your 5 senses and truly be present. See colors a little brighter, hear sounds a little louder. Here's a tip- practice this all through the day! Set a reminder every hour to just ground yourself in the present moment. When you do this, you are training your brain to be calm!
